The 2399 DX appeared in the 1973 catalogue in it's original style with the low-impedance pickups. Around 1976 it became a "face lift"; the headstock changed due to a quarrel with Gibson. To avoid problems the Ibanez' headstocks lost the "open book" shape and funny enough became almost exactly shaped as the Guild headstocks. Along with that the "torch" inlay on the headstock changed and the pickups were replaced by ordinary humbuckers. But that was very faithful to the original, because Gibson also abandoned the oblong pickups and put hums in.
